The Ames/ISU Ice Arena is co-owned by the City of Ames and Iowa State University. The facility is run by the City of Ames and is open year-round with shutdown in May for cleaning and maintenance. There is one NHL sized sheet of ice with four public locker rooms and seating for 1,004. The facility runs public skates, stick and puck, pick-up hockey, and figure freestyle, all open to the public. Customers can schedule to have a birthday party at the rink or schedule time in the Igloo Room (private party room) for any special event.
The rink is home to the Midwest High School Hockey League State Championship, with the Varsity and JV championships held the first weekend in March each year.

The Ames/ISU Ice Arena is home to Iowa State Men’s and Women’s Club Hockey. The men have teams in ACHA Division 1 and Division 2, while the women play in ACHA Division 2.
The Ames Minor Hockey Association (AMHA) is the local youth league that runs a Learn to Play hockey program all the way through Varsity and JV High School Hockey. The association hosts a Mite Jamboree and Squirt Tournament in Ames each year.
The Ames Figure Skating Club is the resident figure skating organization of the rink. On top of several shows and competitions throughout the year, they run the rink’s Learn to Skate program which is offered year-round.
The Ames Adult Hockey League runs Friday and Sunday evenings. It is open to men and women between the ages of 19-89. Skill levels vary from enthusiastic beginners to experienced players. Sunday evenings are generally more competitive than Friday evenings. No slap shots, no checking. Season runs year round. Games are played on Sundays from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Iowa State Intramurals are open to all Iowa State students. They offer curling from August-Sepember, broomball from September-November, and hockey from January-April.
